Gentle Nutrition: A Non-Diet Approach to Healthy Eating

There is a common perception that intuitive eating approaches are also anti-nutrition, but that's simply not the case.

In this book, dietitian Rachael Hartley looks at the role of gentle nutrition in intuitive eating. She explores why diets don't work - and make you eat less healthfully, why weight doesn't equal health, and how to approach nutrition in a flexible way, with the goal of promoting wellbeing, not reaching for an arbitrary number on the scale.

Features 50+ recipes and meal/snack ideas.

The Body is Not an Apology

I love this book - it's probably the best book I've read on body image. It takes a social-justice lens so if that's your jam, you will like it too. It has reflections and activities in it too, which I found so insightful.

DBT Workbook for Bulimia

At the root of bulimia is a need to feel in control. While purging is a strategy for controlling weight, bingeing is an attempt to calm depression, stress, shame, and even boredom. The Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills Workbook for Bulimia offers new and healthy ways to overcome the distressing feelings and negative body-image beliefs that keep you trapped in this cycle.

Massage cushion

Aches and pains are really common in recovery. So I recommend a massage cushion - like this one. I've had this one for over a year for chronic back and shoulder pain. It really helps release tension. It's really powerful - my husband finds it far too sore to use so I think it's only suitable if you like "sore" massages!

Multi-vitamin

Multi-vitamins are sometimes a good idea in recovery. They give you the feeling of insurance while you focus less on what you eat. Multi-vitamins are all pretty much the same, so don't feel like you need to buy premium brands. I've linked this under £10 option from Centrum, but any brand is fine.

Make sure to seek blood work from your doctor before starting to take any supplements.

Let's Recover You: Journalling for Recovery

I had Sophie on my podcast to speak with us about journalling in eating disorder recovery, and since then I really believe in the power of it! I always did, but 100% more now. This guide by Sophie takes you through how to journal specifically when healing your relationship with food.

Big recommendation for anyone who wants to get into journalling but isn't sure how to do it.

Psyllium husk powder might be helpful for anyone with constipation. This bulk-former can help soften stools, making them easier to pass. You can prepare by mixing 1 teaspoon (around 3-5g) of the powder in a large glass of water.

Make sure to consult a health-care professional before using.

Glass food storage containers

These glass food containers might seem random. But, glass containers *might* be better for your hormone health. And you're probably going to have leftovers and food prep in recovery, so they might be something you need.

Sleep mask

Sleeping well is an important thing when healing your relationship with food. Not only does a lack of sleep set you up to feel more stressed and irritable, you feel less ability to connect with yourself. This product is a basic black sleep mask that blocks out light so you can improve your sleep quality.
